Post XV: Song

You are responsible for choosing the music for the new film version of Macbeth. Choose one specific scene from the play and then identify the song that should accompany the scene. Explain why the song you chose would be a perfect compliment to the scene.

A song that would be great for Act 2 Scene 1, the death of King Duncan, would be Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber. This piece of music has suspense and a sad feeling integrated into the progression of the piece. Plus I do think that it would make the death of Duncan more of a sad moment than a sad one.

I know its not the greatest song but one that would go well with the scene when lady macbeth is trying to convince Macbeth to kill Duncan would be toxic by Britney Spears because she is poisoning his mind.

Whoa - Shakespeare and Britney Spears

Tiffy, your song choice amuses me P: But I do agree, that does make sense.

Ok, on the Shakespeare and Britney Spears subject, I find it kind of ironic and funny that they both have the "spear" thing going on in their names. Just saying. :)

@Brittany: ...it must be fate.

For Act III Scene 3 a fitting song would be 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' by Edvard Grieg as the suspense is building when the murderers ready themselves to kill Banquo. The piece increases tempo and movement's end is fast-paced and boisterous, just as Banquo's murder was.

Maneater by Nelly Furtado for when Lady Macbeth is trying to force Macbeth to kill the King. Its a good song because she's a Maneater!

Brittany- nice catch. This could be done - Macbeth set to the music of Britney Spears. Lady Macbeth singing "Baby Hit Me One More Time" I can see it.

I say that O Fortuna would be a great song to play either during the scene where Macbeth kills Duncan or when Macbeth is crowned. I believe this would be the perfect song because it is a very dramatic song that is completely awesome, and also because its about fortune and fate, which plays a big role in this play.

I would choose the scene right after Macbeth kills Duncan with the song being, "Apologize" by Onerepublic. I would choose this song because one of the lyrics says this, "its to late to apologize." :)

Anyway, A song that I think sort of goes with how Macbeth is struggling with his thoughts of killing Duncan, and then when he sort of feels remorse for after the murder would be Leave Out All the Rest by Lincoln Park. I think this because I believe that the reason for him going crazy is because he knows how big of a mistake he's created and all he wanted before the prophecy was just to be remembered and honored for his battles.

I would have to pick Change by Taylor Swift. I love to incorporate Taylor Swift into everything because I absolutely love her music. If you look up the lyrics, I believe it explains everyones feelings for overcoming the evil Macbeth.

Still fly - the devil wears prada

this would fit when Macbeth is trying to deal with his thoughts of going crazy when he first sees banquo's ghost

I'm not sure where it would fit in best, but i keep thinking about "secrets" by one republic. I think it's because everyone has so many.

Scene 6 in Act 3 would fit my song!

Act III Scene VI could definitely use some Cee Lo Green... I could just see Macduff standing center stage singing F*** You to Macbeth.

Nice Elliott, I agree

Okay, I love One Republic, but it sounds too "nice" for Macbeth, doesn't it?

Things that rhyme with orange by I set my friends on fire.

First, it would go well after Lady Macbeth insults Macbeth's masculinity because of the line "I only want you to think I'm fantastic". Macbeth wants his wife to think well of him, as though he's the greatest man alive.

Also, it's ironic because of the name of the band- I Set My Friends On Fire. Macbeth and Banquo were friends, but then Macbeth set him on fire... with a knife. (:

Cassy, That would be a perfect song choice! just saying..
